I have a Linux Server with a PosgtreSQL database protected with SSH and not exposed to web, where everytime I need to get data from this database I have to connect to the server via OpenSSH and forward the PostgreSQL port from local port there to connected client.
So it's important to be aware that it's not possible to install a Windows VM in my server in order to use Power BI Data Gateway to make the bridge between the database and Power BI Service, I do not have storage and power computing enough to that. And I dont have a way to use Windows Server in order to create a SSH connection with the Linux Server and forward the data through Data Gateway in Windows to Power BI.
I think that something from BI Data Gateway can be reproduced or someone have already done that, in order to work in Linux, or there is some Power BI Service user API endpoint in order to create your own Data Gateway service. I don't believe that Microsoft would leave Linux servers out in order not to user Power BI Service. I am looking for some tool or solution only for Linux.
As far as I am aware there currently is now Linux version for the Power BI Gateway. To get it to connect you would need to install the Power BI Gateway on a windows VM
