Fileserver as data source for Power BI

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to upload e.g. Excel sheets to Power BI that do not come from a SharePoint or OneDrive?
I would like to upload data from a file server.
I get these error messages (sorry it's a German system):

You can still use excel files not stored in Sharepoint or Onedrive by importing them into PBI desktop, then publishing and using an on premise data gateway to refresh in the Power BI Service.

Hi @peterschwarzz ,

 Previously you were able to upload an excel file directly to a workspace, but the feature was removed last year.
