Failing to import CSV file in PowerBI Service

Hi,

I am a newbie trying to work with PowerBI Service.

I want to figure out which file format is accepted/read by PowerBI Service.

I am failing to import a local CSV file:

- the separator is the semicolon

- the decimal numbers are written with a comma (and not a dot)

- each field is delimited with double-quotes

- this file contains both numeric and non-numeric data

Has someone already experienced this issue?

Does PowerBI Service only accept a CSV file with comma as a separator? Is it possible to change this option online (I didn't manage to find it)?

Do decimal numbers need to be written with dots instead of commas?

Do fields need to be delimited with double-quotes?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Is there really no way to import a CSV with semicolon separator? I have multiple CSV files that are created automatically and are refreshed every week. I can only change the separator by manually opening each file. I do not want to do this every week (since there are about 20 files). If I upload the CSV files to Power BI Service now, all the data is loaded as one column. Is there really no solution for this?

Hi @Shaozhen,

Based on my test, only Comma Separated CSV file is available to be connected to from Power BI Service. In your scenario, please make a copy of your original CSV file, open it with notepad, replace all semicolon with comma and save changes. Then, connect to this modified CSV file on service again to see whether it works.
