FTP Data Refresh

Good day,

i have managed to connect to files residing on an FTP Server. However, these files get updated hourly, currently i need to refresh & re-publish to get my data updated.

I have looked at the dynamic data options, which i have applied, however my file names dont chnage - the fields just get updated?

anyone have any great ideas to get my data refreshed automatically?

i have tried the "forced refresh" through power autoimate too, still doesnt work 😞

Hi @Anonymous ,

Does that make sense? If so, kindly mark my answer as the solution to close the case please.

If not, please have a try.

  1. Please download the FTP files, upload them to OneDrive, and then use desktop to connect the files on OneDrive. This way you can refresh automatically, you can refer to this post: Connect Power BI to FTP
  2. Try to use ODATA connector, refer to the blog:Author and Share Power BI Reports on Real-Time FTP Data

Hi @Anonymous ,

Could you please tell me what is your connection way?

You can also set automatic page refresh for reports that have been published to the Power BI service as long as the data source is DirectQuery.

Fixed interval:

This refresh type allows you to update all visuals in a report page based on a constant interval such as one second or five minutes. When that specific interval is reached, all visuals in that page send an update query to the data source and update accordingly.

More details: Automatic page refresh in Power BI

If I have misunderstood your meaning, please provide your desired with more details.

Hi @Anonymous ,

If you want to refresh the dataset, you maybe try to use rest api.

Triggers a refresh for the specified dataset from the specified workspace. An asynchronous refresh would be triggered only if any request payload except notifyOption is set. Asynchronous refresh has a response header, Location, which includes the refreshId and could be used to get refresh execution details in group or cancel refresh in group.

More details: Datasets - Refresh Dataset In Group

If you want to refresh dataset and file name, maybe you way is a easy way.

Have you tried setting up scheduled refresh on Power BI service?

You can also look for incremental refresh if your data is getting appended with every update. It will be efficient in terms of performance
