External Data Refresh Failed

Hello!

I create connection to Power Bi Service in my excel workbook. Then I uploaded this book to Power BI Service.

When I try to change filter I get then error "External Data Refresh Failed". What could be the cause of the error?

Hi evgenyg,

You should install a gateway on your machine and then configure datasource in manage gateway pane in power bi service.

Thanks for the answer! But I'm not sure. Do I need a gateway to connect to Power BI Service ? 

Where should it be installed ? I am trying change filter in web browser. Not on my local machine.

Hi evgenyg ,

If your data source is local, you should install a gateway(personal or on-premises) on your machine. In addtion, the machine which will be installed a gateway should not be a domain controller.
