Hi friends!

I was trying to create a dataflow using an SQL Server Database. I am currently facing this issue below. Could you guys help me find the solution and explain why this is happening?

I have a generic username and password that has access in the database. In PBI Desktop, I was able to connect this exact same datasource with no error.

I have had the same error message while creating a new dataflow from MariaDB. I was not able to esablish the connection with MariaDB nor MySQL datasources. Therefore, I have create a ODBC source.

I was able to solve this issue with following steps:

1. Make sure that on the machine where your Power BI-Gateway is installed you have the respective database driver.
2. Create a ODBC source locally and in your workspace setting of your workspace
3. Create localy (on the Power BI-Gateway machine) a pbix file with connection to the ODBC source and test your query.
4. Create a new dataflow in the workspace using the empty query template.
5. Paste the localy created M query into the extended editor of the new dataflow.
6. Try to load data. You will get an error. Set the remote ODBC source of your workspace and try again.

Thank you for the time. But what I was trying to do is to create a dataflow inside a workspace and the data will be coming from SQL server.
