End User of Embedded Report - Tips & Tricks

Does anyone know of any youtube videos or other resources for end users of an embedded report?

These are not ideal for our end users, as they are NOT in the Power BI site:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0onHJ6M0Co&t=1s
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/consumer/

One of the main things we're looking for is an overview of interacting with slicers (like as simple as ok you click here to open up the slicer, you can click any down arrow to see lower levels of the slicer's hierarchy, you can click the "eraser" button to clear the selections, how you can multi-select by holding down CTRL button, etc. etc.). We can make our own video of course, but wanted to see if anyone knows of existing content out there!

Thank you!

Hi @NewbNeedHelp,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding resources for end users of Power BI embedded reports, specifically related to interacting with slicers outside the Power BI service. Kindly find below a concise and user-friendly guide designed to help your end users effectively use slicers within embedded reports.

Guide for Using Slicers in Embedded Reports:

  1. Opening a Slicer: Click on the slicer (for example, a dropdown or list) to view options such as “North” or “South” for filtering the data.
  2. Navigating Hierarchies: Click on the down arrow or expand icon (such as a triangle) to drill down through levels (for example, Year > Quarter > Month).
  3. Clearing Selections: Click the eraser icon located at the top-right corner of the slicer to reset the filters and display all data.
  4. Multi-Selecting: Hold the Ctrl key (or Command key on Mac) and click multiple items in a list slicer to filter by several values simultaneously.
  5. Using Range Slicers: Drag the sliders or enter numeric/date values to specify ranges (for example, January to December 2023).

Please refer to the following Microsoft documentation for further information:

  1. Slicers in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
This Microsoft Learn page provides a comprehensive overview of slicers, including interaction techniques within reports. Although it primarily references the Power BI service, the guidance on selecting values and using hierarchies is applicable to embedded reports as well. This resource may be adapted to develop end-user training materials.

  2. Use slicers in Power BI embedded analytics | Microsoft Learn
This document is more technical in nature but contains a dedicated section explaining how slicers function in embedded reports. It can be simplified to share practical user tips such as selecting values and clearing filters with your audience.

This is definitely helpful! It doesn't quite get us exactly what we need, since we don't want to confuse users who won't be in the Power BI site at all (only embedded), but it helped inspire us on what to cover in our own DIY videos!
