Enabling Data Protection capabilities in Power BI

Power BI released Data Protection capabilities in preview in Nov 2019. We see more and more customers enabling it, and we would like to share some best practices for doing so successfully.

Before enabling the Data Protection toggles in the Tenant settings section of the Admin portal, make sure the following requirements have been met:

  1. You must have a relevant Microsoft Information Protection license.
  2. Make sure that Microsoft Information Protection sensitivity labels have been defined for your organization and that at least one policy has been published. If this hasn't been done, do so.
  3. Tenants that currently use Azure Information protection labels need to migrate to the new unified Microsoft Information Protection sensitivity labels solution.

Best,

Yarden
