Try the following solution from this link.

Enable the setting to encrypt passwords for all users of the machine.

  1. Open ODBC Data Source Administrator.
  2. Find the Athena Data Source in question.
  3. Click on Configure.
  4. Click on Authentication Options.

Hi @dyn ,

Are you @dy ? Or is it just the same name?😂

The error message shows that you don't seem to have a gateway configured for your data source.

Please refer to

@v-stephen-msft Haha it's the same. i couldn't login with my previous account that's why create a new one.

One thing more wanna ask can we write query on power bi to get data from source if yes then how can we do this could you specify an example if i have to fetch from athena and want to write query in power bi to get data from athena

Hi @dyn ,

Power BI has Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service. In Desktop, you can connect data sources and refresh data without a gateway. In Service, some specific data sources require you to configure gateways as bridges to connect data sources.

When you say athena, do you mean Amazon Athena? It needs the gateway to refresh in Power BI Service.
