Hello,
I am currently working on the deployment of the following scenario and need further help:
'Workspace Dataset' should only contain 2 datasets. 'Workspace Report' should only contain 2 reports, which both use the data source the 2 datasets from 'Workspace Dataset'. Now, even though the data sources of these 2 reports use the 2 datasets from 'Workspace Dataset', 2 separate datasets are still created in 'Workspace Report' when this is being published in 'Workspace Report'.
My assumption for this is that field parameters are used in the dashboard, which are loaded as imports into the 2 reports that use as data source the 2 datasets from 'Workspace Dataset'. This creates a mixed Data Connectivity Mode of Import and DirectQuery, which then create 2 separate datasets in 'Workspace Report'.
My questions are:
1. Is my assumption above indeed the cause for the creation of 2 seperate datasets in 'Workspace Report'? If not, what is the cause for creating additional datasets?
2. Is it possible to use field parameters in the dashboard without creating a new dataset in 'Workspace Report' as soon as the dashboard is published? If so, how?
I would greatly appreciate any help on this matter! Thanks a lot!
Kind Regards,
Muhammed

Hi, @Muhammed97
Regarding your first question, it is possible that the mixed Data Connectivity Mode of Import and DirectQuery is causing the creation of separate datasets in 'Workspace Report'. When you use DirectQuery mode, the data is not imported into Power BI, but instead, the queries are sent directly to the data source. When you use Import mode, the data is imported into Power BI and stored in a dataset. If you have a mix of Import and DirectQuery mode in your report, Power BI will create separate datasets for each mode.
Regarding your second question, it is possible to use field parameters in the dashboard without creating a new dataset in 'Workspace Report'. You can use the same dataset that is used in 'Workspace Dataset' and apply the field parameter filter to the visuals in the report. This way, the report will use the same dataset as 'Workspace Dataset' and the field parameter filter will be applied to the visuals.
In summary, the mixed Data Connectivity Mode of Import and DirectQuery may be causing the creation of separate datasets in 'Workspace Report'. To avoid this, you can use the same dataset that is used in 'Workspace Dataset' and apply the field parameter filter to the visuals in the report.
