Deploying on-premise gateway on server and connecting it with Power BI

Hey there Fabric Community,

I am currently having some issues setting up a on-premise gateway on a server and connecting it with Power BI.

The installed gateway is in standard mode. I am using the latest available version.

In the Power BI "Manage Connections and Gateways" section we can see the connection and the gateway.

Both have the status online. In the connection settings i entered the required credentials for the SQL Server i want to connect to.

But if i go to "My Workspace" and take a look at the semantic model which i want to use create the report, i get the following message:

mhe_0-1721642176902.png

I checked the credentials, they are valid.

Additionaly to exclude any port or connectivity issues i tried running a network port test as stated in this article:

Adjust communication settings for the on-premises data gateway | Microsoft Learn in the section "Network port tests"

But the "Start new test" button is missing in my case.

In the semantic model settings, under Gateway and cloud connections the connected Gateway is listed but the status says: "Not configured correctly". If i view the datasources via the arrow on the right side it say "Data sources included in this semantic model:

and then there is a SqlServer connection string displayed which does not contain the configuration and credentials i entered for the connection being used.

edit:

I realized that the Development section might not be the right choice for this post but I haven't found a way to move it another section so if an admin or moderator reads this, please feel free to move this post to a proper section.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Best Regards,

mhe

Does your user has the rights to use this one connection?
You can add different users for using the connections.

Hey @Anonymous,

Thank You for your reply.

I checked the credential setting several times and created new connections to assure its not a typo.

It is not one the same machine but its in the same local network and should be accessible, we wanted to test that but as already mentioned our On-Premise Gateway (Standard Mode) does not offer the possibility to "Start new test" as it is in the troubleshooting blog. Do you have any thoughts on that?

And sadly i cant find any troubleshooting about the gateway being "Not configured correctly".

Best Regards,

mhe

Hi @mhe ,

According to your statement, I think your have issue on configuring gateway for schedule refresh.

This issue is more on the Services forum, so I will move this post to that forum, where there are more professional forum members to help you better.

I will also give some suggestions.

Your issue should be caused that the credential, please check the credential setting in "Manage Connections and Gateways".

Please make sure whether your gateway is on the same machine with your data source. If not, please make sure your gateway has access to the data soruce machine.

You can have a test with another report which has a easy data source like excel to check whether your gateway could work well.

You may also refer to this offical blog to learn more about troubleshooting.

Rico Zhou
