Dax based RLS available in datamart - Error when trying Dynamic parameters

So I noticed that in the datamart preview that the dax editor is now available for PowerBI service. It autocompletes for both username and userprincipalname but I get the following error when I attempt to save the change.

  • Underlying Error{"code":"UnexpectedDatamartFailure","pbi.error":{"code":"UnexpectedDatamartFailure","parameters":{},"details":[{"code":"ModelingServiceError_Reason","detail":{"type":1,"value":"Parsing error exception at line 1 position 12: 'mismatched input 'USERNAME' expecting {TRUE, FALSE, BLANK, INT, FLOAT_NO_DOT, FLOAT_NO_FRAC, FLOAT_FRAC, STRING, DATETIME}'."}}]}}

Clearly it's a server side issue but just hoping someone from MS Support can escalate this. Fully aware that it's a preview so this is to be expected

Hi @nrichards_au ,

Given that the Datamart is still in preview, it may be part of the process to encounter such issues when extending and optimising the feature set. For more information about RLS in Datamart, you can see the link below:

Control access to datamarts (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

If it is not acceptable to use the Data Mart directly in the DAX editor, please consider implementing the RLS logic in Power BI Desktop first and then publishing the model to the Power BI service.

By the way, can you confirm if the issue persists between browsers or after clearing the browser cache?

Best Regards,

Ada Wang

Hi Ada,

Thanks for the response.

It's purely a datamart issue so can't use PowerBI Desktop to manage the RLS of a datamart. The documentation says it should support it but it doesn't. If it should be posted as a bug instead happy to do so and mark this as solved.
