Dataflows Licensing

Hi,

I have seen in something in MS documentation that implies that dataflows will no longer be available for users with Pro licenses:

Microsoft Fabric concepts - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

but elsewhere it seems to imply that nothing is changing and that users with Pro licenses will still be able to create dataflows but just not access any of the advanced PPU features.

Does anyone know for certain that dataflows will remain a Pro feature after Fabric licensing changes? We have dataflows under Pro licenses currently and need to make sure that they will still be available in the future.

Thanks

Hi @AW-WS

This does not mean that Pro users cannot use the data stream, the license requirement for the data stream Gen1 is Pro, and the requirement for Gen2 is Fabric trial Capacity.
The implication of this document is that the PPU will add some advanced features of Gen1 instead of changing the minimum requirements for Gen1 to PPU.

Here‘s a link of the advanced feature of Dataflow Gen1 for your reference:

Hi @AW-WS ,

In the screenshot you have shared they mentioned advanced dataflows.I think they are referring to gen2 dataflows or the information whatever you have is incorrect.

Thanks,

HI @AW-WS ,

I have to give you the pre-requisite "I do not work for Microsoft and am not privy to inside information" but I have seen nothing and heard nothing in all the seminars and conferences and documentation that would indicate a change for dataflows.

Power BI Pro allows you to use Dataflows - BUT, without Premium license, you do not get DirectQuery or AI capabilities in a Dataflow.  And, the space is limited to the 10 GB (minus what you have used) storage.  Premium has all of those capabilities.

As for the link that you shared, I think that, first, this is about the Workspace access and not specifically about "dataflows".  AND, I think that this is just not written with all the details in it.  If you notice, the PPU comment doesn't include dataflows either.....

Also, from a purely practicaly standpoint.  This would be a massive change in direction that would cause quite an uproar and I doubt that this would be a "hidden" or "casual" change if it were to actually happen.  This would be a well-known configuration change just because it would affect so many customers.
