Hello All,
We have a report with Excel as a data source. Path of excel source is local path e.g D:\SourceData\Sales.xlsx
We are able to consume data from excel in Power BI Desktop. We deployed the report in my Workspace and report is working as expected. but
when we go for manual dataset refresh then It will give below error:
Based on the above error, we go to dataset setting then we found that Data Source Credentials option is disabled.
Let us know what could be the root cause of the issue and how to resolve it.
Thanks,
PBI V2

Hi @PBI_V2 ,
This is because your data come from local excel, you need to install and configure a Personal Gateway or Standard Gateway firstly, then create the data source for the gateway in Power BI Service Portal, then open the Power BI dataset settings page, set the gateway connections, then you could refresh the dataset.
For more details, you can read related document:

Hey @PBI_V2 ,
as your data is on prem, you need to configure (setup) a connection to this source. Same procedure when you connect on-prem SQL-DB, Oracle-DB etc.
Do you have a working connection to your local excel already in Service?
Regards,
Sergej
Hello @sergej_og
Thanks for your response. Actually, This is the first Power BI project for our client so currently we didn't deploy anything to service just development only. also we have free license only till now so we are deploying at my workspace only.
Thanks,
PBI V2
ok, sounds like exiting times for you.
If you would like to test your developments (e.g. data refresh in Service) you will need a gateway and a connection to your lokal folder. This connection allows the gateway to get to the source data, also for deployments into "My workspace".
Make sure internal Firewall-rules allow communication between gateway (VM) and File-Server (VM)
