I have scoured the forums and blogs and can't find a single straight forward answer to this.
If the "Encrypt Connection" box is checked in the data source setup in a desktop report and you push it to the service, will the on-premise gateway use the same encrypted connection when refreshing?
ie, the same server certificate would need to be installed on the gateway vm as the laptop running the desktop version and the connection from the gateway to the data source would be encrypted as would the data in transit between the data source and the gateway.
Thanks, that's the general answer everywhere when pertaining to the gateway and the service. I'm specifically looking at the gateway to the native data source as shown in the red line below.
If the "Encrypt connections" box is checked in Power BI Desktop, will that mean the On-Premise gateway will create an encrypted connection with the data source too? I know it's not guaranteed to be encrypted as I can connect to unencrypted data sources.
Hopefully that makes sense. Any help is appreciated!
Hi @jjudy
The data is always encrypted when sent natively via the Power BI On-Premise Gateway is because it uses HTTPS which is always encrypted.
