Data Gateway Error - You don't have any data gateways

Hi all,

I've had a look through the site to see if i can find that answers already but nothing i've seen seems to cover our issue. also please bear in mind that I am not the site admin for Power BI, just an end user looking for help! The images below were provided by yhr admin.

My organisation has a Power BI Premium license (i personally have a Pro license) We have setup our data gateway and connected to a number of data sources. The gateway setup:

One of the data sources:

A workspace has then been linked to the gateway, which i have admin rights:

gw3.jpg

However when i go to the workspace and select manage gateways i get the data gateway error:

gw4.PNG

So is this something we've done wrong in our install and configuration of the data gateway or is there another issue at play here?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi @Chizo ,

First of all, We suggest you to black out the email address and other confidential content in your screenshot.

If you are the administrator of this gateway, then you can see this gateway cluster in "Manage Gateway". But if you are just a user of the data source in this gateway. You can still use this data source, after publish the report which use the exactly same data source that configured in gateway, you can map this published dataset to the gateway in "Settings" - "Dataset".

For example, if we configure a SQL Server data source with address "A" and table is "B", then you publish a report that contain a data source Connocting a SQL Sever with address "A" and table is "B", then you can map this dataset to the gateway even you  just  a user of this gateway instead of administrator.

If you're an end user you'll need to be granted access to the relevant connections in a data gateway.

If your admin would send you a screenshot after clicking on source "MOSREP" for example - you would see there's a "Users" tab. You would need to be added in that tab.

Sorry should have included this screenshot, I have already been added as a user of the data source:

Are you clicking the "manage gateways" option here?

My understanding is the "manage gateways" button is for admins-only. You would just connect reports ot the connections you have access to in the gateway.

I would try building a report using one of the data connections you have access to and seeing if you can set up the dataset refresh in the workspace. You should see the data gateway option not be greyed out and have an option to map your connection to the data gateway connection that you have access to
