Dashboard Tiles refresh | Direct Query vs Import

Hi All

Been testing Direct Query vs Import mode connection to On-Prem SQL, when it comes to Tiles refresh in Dashboard.
Are also using the REST API to publish updates to tiles in Dashboard. But API is excluded in this test.

I have installed the Enterprise gateway (preview) and tested Direct Query vs Import data against on-prem SQL.

This is what I got so far.

Import Datasets On-Premise SQL

 Every time the dataset is updated in PowerBI, either manual or through Schedule refresh:

• Dashbord is updated instant.
• Report is NOT updated instant. Refresh manually is needed. (Or wait a long time?)

Direct Query dataset On-Premise SQL

When SQL DB On-prem is updated:

• Reports never auto updates.
• Manual refresh is needed on report.
• Dashboards never updates.
• Dashboard never updates when Report is refreshed.
• Refresh (F5) the browser tiles do not update in Dashboard.
• Click "Refresh Dashboard Tiles" Dashboards do update with new content.

Anyone have any input on this or is this a pattern others allso see?

4 months after your post the situation is the same. Unfortunately.

Have you registered a support case on this?

I plan to do this now as this is really something that the end users are struggling with and are constantly complaining to me.
