DOMException: Failed to execute 'atob' when saving Basic Authentification in Gateway

Hello BI Community,

I wanted to create a Gatway Connection to get data in apps.powerbi.com.

The Gatway is set up and I can see the Gatway Entry Points at:

https://app.powerbi.com/groups/me/gateways

But when I try to add (Basic) username and password for my Microsoft SQL database connection, I get the follwoing error in the WebBrowser-Console:

Uncaught (in promise) DOMException: Failed to execute 'atob' on 'Window': The string to be decoded is not correctly encoded.

I searched for the error and found a Gitlab entry:

https://github.com/AzureAD/microsoft-authentication-library-for-js/issues/6492

I assume, that the AzureEU server will get this patch later but how long will this aproximatly take? I would like to offer my boss a new shiny BI Report in our Sharepoint, but when I can´t add the Authentification, I can´t get current data.

OK, this is unexpected.

I installed the "PowerBI Standard Gateway". I could authenticate via my credentials and I assumed, that I can now use the Gateway. It seems, that I am only able to use "PowerBI Standard Gateway (personal Editition)".

This in itself is not a big deal, but I can´t get why this does not get reported as a normal error but in this cryptic and unintuitive way.

So the problem is solved, if someone stumbles about this error again. Just uninstall the "standard" version and install the "personal" version.

I contected the PowerBI Support Team and I hope they can help.

As I said, it has nothing to do with the data source or Authentication Method. It is a documented error in a Javascript library (documented here: Github MSAL.js )

I hope that they will fix that soon. I wonder, why there aren´t more people who have the same problem.

Sure.

It is a Gateway in our local network, which requests a Microsoft SQL Server 2017 and 2019.

But I don´t think it has anything to do with the Connection itself. The error occurs as soon as I press "save". And if I understand the Github page correctly the error is within MSAL which is located within:
https://gatewayadminportal.azure.com/static/js/bundle.js
So I can only hope that MS is aware of this problem and will fix it soon. I cannot understand, that there are so few people with this problem. For me this is a major issue, as I can´t progress with my work.

Hi @MaikL

Could I ask what data source you are trying to connect to?
