Custom Visual Not Rendering

The custom visual I downloaded from the visual gallery stopped rendering on my report. Have you encountered this before and what did you do to resolve the issue?

As of 2/19/2016 @ 4:30, the KPI visuals in this report are not rendering

Yesterday an updated version of the KPI Indicator was published to the gallery that should solve your issues. The previous version stopped working due to a change in the api.

What was the issue, and how can we prevent it from happening in the future knowing that some other custom visuals were working fine?

The issue was that MS made a change in one of the API:s available for custom visuals. If a custom visual utilized the DataRoleHelper class it needed a minor fix to make it continue to work - thats why just some of the custom visuals broke. I guess we will see a more proactive testing approach to come in the future - like automated testing routines for custom visuals after api updates.
