Hello,
I tried to create a connection to our database on our SQL server, but without success.
I already have one connection through that gateway. The only thing that is different is the database name and it is working without a problem. I updated the gateway yesterday to rule that out, but did not help.
I am not sure if permissions inside of PBI service can play a role whether I can or cannot create a connection?
Not sure what more info to give so feel free to ask.
EDIT: I tried creating the same connection that works, but under a different name and get the same error. I have no idea what is happening. Gateway is online, the old connection is online, but for some reason I can't do anything else.
Thank you for any input guys.
Hi rajendraongole1 ,thanks for the quick reply, I'll add more.
Hi @Brumik ,
Regarding your issue, please try uninstalling and reinstalling the gateway. Try restarting the gateway or check whether the firewall has opened the ports required by the gateway.Or you can refer to this article to migrate the original gateway to the newly registered gateway cluster, and then try to see if the connection can be successfully established.

Hello,
thank you for your reply. Just a quick question before I try this. If I have one data source connection working through that gateway, wouldn't that automatically mean that the ports are OK? If they weren't then the one working data source connection wouldn't be working right?
Hi @Brumik ,
Generally speaking, SQL Server uses port 1443. Check whether the port is normal.

Ports are fine.
Before I would have gone and reinstalled the gateway, I tried installing one on a different machine and I failed because apparantely my organization doesn't allow me to install gateways.
There was a permission / access / license purge like half a year ago. But I am still an admin on the current one I have.
I don't know what kind of permissions PBI service has.. is there any that would disallow me of using a gateway eventhough I am it's admin?
Hi @Brumik -You can start by checking the permissions in SQL Server, gateway configurations, and testing the connection from a SQL management tool.Verify that the login credentials used in the connection have proper read access to the new database. You can test this by logging into SQL Server directly with those credentials and trying to access the new database.Confirm that the on-premises data gateway has access to the new database. Go to the Manage Gateways section in Power BI Service, check if the new database is mapped correctly under the same gateway. Also, ensure the server name and instance are correctly specified.Double-check that your connection string is correct, especially the database name, SQL Server instance, and any special parameters that might be required.
these approaches helps you to find the issue. please check the above options.
