Create PBI report from Azure SQL server

Hi everyone.

I'm looking for the documentation or maybe a simple flow of the how to create a new report in the PBI service getting data from an Azure SQL Server source in a private end point with a Vnet.

Here more details:

The admin has already configured all settings (that's what it seems).

I have created a new workspace with fabric capacities and in the settings (for my user) I can see the connection in the Manage gateway options as a Vnet (only read permission).
I have created a data flow gen2 I loaded the data and did the transformation I need and I'm publishing it in a lakehouse into this workspace

But, when I try to create a new report selecting the published semantic model I get this error message:

  • Error: Capacity operation failed with error code CannotRetrieveModelException.

So, I'm not sure if I'm following the correct steps to get this done.

That's why I'm looking for a flow or existing documentation.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Mr_Jeffers The error occurs due to connectivity, permissions, or capacity issues. The VNet gateway might be misconfigured, the dataset could be in an error state, or the workspace may lack sufficient Fabric capacity. Ensure your user account has proper permissions and manually refresh the dataset. Check connectivity to the Azure SQL Server and verify the VNet gateway setup to resolve the issue.

Hi Akash,

Thank you for your reply.
I think my user have the appropiate permissions sinse I can load and transform the data in Power Query.

I can set the schedule to refresh data (also manual refresh works good) and In one lake I can see the table resulting from that transformation in the specific workspace.

How can I check all the possilbe scenarios you mention?

Thanks again.
