Twice recently I've run into a scary issue with copies of thin reports. These are the exact steps that caused the issue for me:
1. I make a copy of a thin report in the service and save it in the same workspace under a new name. Lets say the original report is called "ABC" and the copy is called "Copy of ABC".
2. I download the pbix file for "Copy of ABC" with a live connection to the dataset and make changes in desktop.
3. I publish "Copy of ABC" back to service. I get the prompt that "Copy of ABC" already exists , I click "Replace". The report uploads and then I get the success message and click the link, which takes me to "Copy of ABC", but I don't see the updates I made. Instead, "ABC" has now been replaced with the version of "Copy of ABC"
4. I also have a desktop version of "ABC" that overwirtes "ABC" as it should when published. I just cannot get "Copy of ABC" to publish over the correct file.
The first time this happened I had no backup desktop files for any of my thin reports. After that fiasco I saved backups and thank goodness I did because the issue happened a second time.
I have a Pro account.
I have about 40 thin reports connected to one dataset. Most of the thin reports were created in the service by copying the very first report that is connected to the dataset. It seems that this issue only happens when I make copies of the thin reports in the service.
Anyone else experience this issue?
This is the second post related to publishing issues. I am not able to re-create the issue, so it could be specific to your tenant/location etc. If it doesnt resolve soon, i'd recommend submitting a ticket here.
