Connection to datamart broken

Hi all,

I have a datamart in Fabric. I succesfully connected an Excel file to this datamart by doing the following:

- Copy the SQL connection string

- In Excel - GetData - FromDatabase - FromSQLServerDatabase --> paste the connection string

- Connect using 'Micorosoft account'

So far so good. Data comes in. Refreshable, all good...

Suddenly the connection broke and I get the following error message:

QUOTE

DataSource.Error: Microsoft SQL: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)
Details:
DataSourceKind=SQL
DataSourcePath=...(intentionally deleted this part)

Message=A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)
ErrorCode=-2146232060
Number=10054
Class=20

UNQUOTE

Trying to connect from another machine, from a blank Excel file, from PBI Desktop...nothing works, I simply cannot get connected anymore.

Any ideas?

thx

Jan

The error you’re seeing typically occurs due to SSL/TLS handshake issues between your client (Excel or Power BI) and the datamart server. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

1. Verify Credentials: Double-check that your Microsoft account has permission to access the datamart.

2. Check Network and Firewall: Ensure no firewall or network security rule is blocking the connection.

3. Update Excel and Drivers: Make sure Excel, Power BI, and SQL Server drivers are up-to-date, as updates often fix SSL issues.

4. Connection String: Confirm that the SQL connection string is correctly formatted and hasn't changed.

5. SSL/TLS Settings: Check if your organization has updated security protocols that could affect SSL/TLS versions.

If the issue persists, reach out to your IT team or Microsoft support for further assistance, as server-side configuration changes may be required.

Thanks for the reply from FarhanJeelani, please allow me to provide another insight.
Hi @JS23 ,

You can try connecting using the Windows account instead of the Microsoft account.
Also, please refer to the following link which documents this error.
