I was testing the new DirectQuery update on Power Bi Desktop. When I went to connect the first Power BI datasets it connected and worked fine but when I went to add a second dataset it gave me this error:
"We encountered an error while trying to connect. Details: We could not connect to the Analysis Services server because the connection timed out or the server name is incorrect."
How do you fix this error?
Hi @KatieB ,
Based on document, the effective user name in connection string is "domain\user" format, you have to provide a domain to correctly convert the connection string.
Please check that your login name is correct and that you can connect to the model.
For detail information, you can take a look at below articles:

How to get your questions answered quickly -- How to provide sample data
Hi @KatieB ,
Based on what the error states, you should first check and make sure that you have server name exactly correct. And, you may need to confirm that the Analysis Server is open to connections.
