Automatic data update on power bi desktop

Hello,

I created a report from a sql server source but without going through ETL (SSIS Package) because a partner who manages the database did not allow us to create a DW, so I imported the tables and I modified them on powerQuery.

I would like to know if there is a possibility to program an automatic update from power bi desktop instead of updating manually?

Thanks.

  • If you are on Power BI desktop, you have to hit the refresh button to update the data model.

But you can schedule automated refresh on Power BI service, if there is a gateway ( assuming your sql server is on-prem)

      Hello,

      Thank you for your feedback.

      Okay, I've got it,
Is the fact of planning an update on power bi service going to allow the update of the data from the source?
Or is it mandatory that the data be updated first on power bi desktop?
If it is the second case, can I use power automate?

The first, you only need to set the refresh in Power BI Service. If you have on-prem data source in your report, you may require Power BI Gateway.
