Confusion with Power BI Premium Sizes

Im getting confused with the documentation and data sizes for Premium

P1 P2 and P3

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/refresh-data#configure-scheduled-refresh

Mentions this

Capacity type Maximum dataset size

Shared, A1, A2, or A31 GB
A4 or P13 GB
A5 or P26 GB
A6 or P310 GB

However https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-premium-what-is

states this

Capacity NodesRAM (GB)
EM1/A13
EM2/A25
EM3/A310
P1/A425
P2/A550
P3/A6100

What is the difference between the Maximum data set size and RAM GB

Then we are also told Storage is set to 100 TB per capacity node.

Im really struggling to understand the difference between these things.

Dataset size is your pbix file size.
RAM here refers to the memory size of the service. You can also understand it as the RAM of the computer. When the pbix file runs, it will consume memory.
Total storage of 100TB in the cloud.

Hi there

Just remember what when you open up the PBIX it will expand the memory size to about 3-4 times the size of the PBIX.

And when using Power BI Premium it consumes memory and not the PBIX.

For example if your PBIX is 500MB in size, when running it in Power BI Premium it will consume anything between 1500MB to 2000MB of Premium Capacity Memory.

That makes perfect sense now.

Thank you
