So I have 2 reports that connect to a cloud DB, one says " You don't need a gateway for this dataset, because all of its data sources are in the cloud, but you can use a gateway for enhanced control over how you connect. " and the other PBI service treats it like a regular SQL Server connections that needs to use the BI Gateway
The one that works is connected to database.windows.net
The one that is not recognize as could and force me to use the gateway use the cloudapp.azure.com
I setup the data source as Azure SQL in Direct Query mode.
I can access both on SSMS with no issues.
What I'm doing wrong?
Hi @smedina2580 ,
Datasets that use cloud data sources, such as Azure SQL DB, don't require a data gateway if Power BI can establish a direct network connection to the source.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/refresh-data#accessing-cloud-data-sources
What is your other data source? Which data sources need a gateway in the link below, you can check whether your data source needs it here.

Is the database on cloudapp.azure.com running in a virtual machine?
I need to check but to my understanding is not.
