How can an existing SQL Server connection be updated on the Power BI Gateway? It's greyed out other than the name. Or does a new one have to be created? If so, if the new one has the same name, does anything else need to be done or do datasets need to be mapped to the new source (even though the name is the same)?
Hi. Server name or database name can't be changed once added to the gateway as a source. You can change credentials for permissions purposes only.
If you have a new instance or database name then it means it's a different source for the gateway and you can add it again. If the name of instance and database is the exact same thing, you just need to change credentials. The test connection is run in the VM or Machine where the gateway is installed, so it's like running the test from there.
I hope that helps,
Happy to help!
