Cannot refresh data from .xls files on SP via on-premise gateway

I have an issue with scheduled refresh of old Excel files (.xls) that are stored on SharePoint.
Every time the refrsh is triggered from Service I get the error message

"Excel Workbook: The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine. The 64-bit version of the Access Database Engine 2010 Access Database Engine OLEDB provider is required to connect to read this type of file. To download the client software, visit the following site: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=285987."

The report also uses some on-premise sources in addition to .xls files and there is a separate machine with gateway installed for it.

Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 x64 is installed on the gateway machine and it allows to source same xls files if they are stored locally (e.g. on the gateway machine itself).

The manual refresh from Desktop works just fine as well.

Hi @Anonymous

As this article described: "Power BI supports importing or connecting to workbooks created in Excel 2007 and later. Workbooks must be saved as .xlsx or .xlsm file type and be under 1 GB.".

Besides above,  after researching, A similar thread  indicates that this kind of problem is a matter of files type.

Please change files from type .xls to .xlsx to see if it works for you.

Best Regards

Maggie
