I created a report in power bi desktop where I am connecting to a gearhost.com database. After publishing the report to online app, it asked me to re-enter the credentials for database access. When I did in dataset settings, the spinner keeps on spinning without completing the connection. The database is online and I can connect to it through other means.
Any idea what might be wrong?
Thanks,
Gaurav
I haven't reproduced you issue. I can edit the credential for accessing GearHost online SQL Database properly.
If you still can't have it work, please try to use Enterprise Gateway to connect GearHost database.
Regards,
Hi,
I don't know what is a gearhost.com database but I will do my best :
- are you sure that you don't need to install a gateway in order to allow Power BI to connect to your database ? or maybe you meant that the gateway is online ?
- otherwise, check your database's firewall and your server's firewall, or access rules on the database
- if you set a gateway, verify that you put same informations on both. (mssql3.gear.host in your case into Power BI and into the gateway)
For your information, the credentials are not saved into your file. That's why you need to re-enter them after publishing. It will be the same thing if you share your file to a colleague.
