Hello All,
The company hosting one of our sql databases is recommending using a fixed ip address to access from for scheduled refreshes so that they can keep their firewall in tact. Please can you tell me how best to do this?
- Service - googling i can see tricks to find my Service ip address but it may changes and lots of people share it?
- On premisis gateway - we have one but can it connect to off-premsis?
- is there another way??
(I assume my laptop ip address will also need to be whitelisted to do the setup)
Thanks for any pointers! 🙂

Hi @CloudMonkey ,
Maybe you can add range of IP address to be whitelisted from PowerBI side so we can make the successful connection to sql database which is behind firewall.
Try to download the Microsoft Azure Datacenter IP list, which is updated weekly or configureto allow outbound connections to FQDN's rather than IP's.
You can refer to these thread:

If the problem is still not resolved, please provide detailed error information or the expected result you expect. Let me know immediately, looking forward to your reply.
Best Regards,
Winniz

Hi @CloudMonkey
The best way is to have a gateway installed the clients network that then connects to the PBI Service. Unfortunately the PBI service IP addresses will change all the time.
Check out the July 2025 Power BI update to learn about new features.
