I have created a visualization with Azure Maps in Power BI Desktop, where I have plotted several polygon features. Each polygon has a location name, longitude and latitude corresponding to the same information contained in a Geojson file used in the reference layer.
In desktop the tooltips are displayed when I hover the mouse over one of the polygons on the map: however, this functionality disappears when I publish the map to Power BI Service. Once published, hovering over the polygons does not display any tooltips. Tooltips are only displayed if I include a bubble layer, which is not as aesthetically pleasing.
Is there a way to have the tooltips display when I hover over the reference layer polygons in Power BI Service?
Thanks for confirming my thoughts @rajendraongole1. Any idea when this functionality will be added to Power BI Service?
Hi @JonWri - Unfortunately, as of now, tooltips for reference layers (like polygons from GeoJSON files) in Azure Maps do not display in Power BI Service, even though they work in Power BI Desktop. the bubble layer workaround is the most feasible way to retain tooltip functionality for polygons in Power BI Service.
If you must have tooltips, you can include a bubble layer on top of your polygons:
Use minimal styling for the bubble layer to make it less noticeable (e.g., smallest size and transparent colors).
Ensure the tooltip information is tied to the bubble layer, so it displays when hovering over it.
While this is not ideal aesthetically, it retains the functionality of tooltips.
