API not working in service

Hi everyone,

I'm encountering a challenge with connecting to an API that uses OAuth authorization in Power BI Service.

Here's the situation:

  • I am using an API that requires OAuth authentication.
  • I successfully generated a Bearer Token using Postman with the credentials provided by the API provider.
  • In Power BI Desktop, I was able to connect to the API by using the "From Web" Advanced method and adding the Bearer Token as a header parameter. This setup worked perfectly in Power BI Desktop.

However, when I publish the report to Power BI Service, I encounter the following error: "Failed to test the connection to your data source. Please retry your credentials."

When I try to edit the credentials in Power BI Service, I cannot get the authentication to work.

Has anyone faced a similar issue with OAuth authentication and Bearer Tokens in Power BI Service?

For that scenario you need to create a custom connector.
