Hey @Shiva2210 ,
The error typically indicates an issue with the DB2 client environment setup. Based on the tokens shown, it seems the DB2 .NET provider might not be properly installed or configured for the version of DB2 (11.5.40) being used. Few things to check:
DB2 Client Installation: Ensure the DB2 .NET Data Provider (v11.5.40) is correctly installed on the machine where Power BI or the gateway is running.
Environment Variables: Verify that the necessary DB2 environment variables (like DB2PATH, PATH) are correctly set.
32-bit vs 64-bit: Confirm that the architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) of Power BI matches the DB2 client installed.
Gateway Setup: If you're using an on-premises gateway, make sure the same DB2 provider is installed and configured on the gateway machine.

Hi @Shiva2210
The error you're seeing, "SQL1159 Initialization error with DB2 .NET Data Provider, reason code 10", typically occurs when Power BI is unable to properly initialize the IBM DB2 client libraries required to connect to the DB2 server. This often happens when the necessary DB2 drivers are not correctly installed on the machine being used—whether it's your local system or the on-premises data gateway server if you're working in the Power BI Service. The error indicates that the DB2 .NET provider could not find or load the required DB2 environment components, which may be due to missing files, an incorrect installation path, or a mismatch between the bit version of Power BI and the DB2 client. For example, using a 32-bit DB2 client with 64-bit Power BI will lead to such issues. To resolve this, ensure that the appropriate 64-bit IBM Data Server Client or Runtime Client is installed, that the environment variables (like PATH and DB2PATH) are properly set to include the DB2 binaries, and that the system is restarted after installation. If you're encountering this error in Power BI Service, verify that the on-premises data gateway has the DB2 client installed and correctly configured, as Power BI relies on the gateway to interact with on-premises sources. Fixing the DB2 client setup should eliminate the initialization error when you apply changes to the server connection.
Hi @Shiva2210 ,
Just following up to see if you had a chance to recheck the DB2 driver setup and the data source credentials in Power BI. Were you able to identify if any custom configurations or DSN settings were in use earlier?
If you're still facing issues, feel free to share any error messages or screenshots happy to help troubleshoot further.
Looking forward to your update.
Best regards,
Akhil

Hi Akhil
The problem still persists. Little bit of additional information. These reports were created by someone and I inherited it by taking over the owner ship. Could this be one of the reason ? should he do something from his side. Thanks
Hi @Shiva2210 ,
Yes, that could be part of the issue if the report was built on someone else's setup, it might be using their local drivers or connection settings. I’d suggest rechecking your DB2 driver installation and clearing/re-entering the data source credentials in Power BI. Also, if possible, check with the previous owner if they used any custom configs or DSN settings on their machine.
Happy to help further if it still doesn’t work. Just let me know!

Akhil.

Hi @Shiva2210
Power BI is trying to connect to a DB2 database, but the DB2 .NET Data Provider failed to start because it’s not properly installed or set up. To fix this try to Install the IBM Data Server Client (Full version), Make sure it's version 11.5.40 (same as in the error). Use the 64-bit installer (since Power BI is 64-bit).
if it still fails, Make sure your Windows user like AzureAD has permission to access the DB2 server.
