Paginate report does not display all pages in web layout.

In PBI Service, when I execute paginated report, the web layout does not display all of the pages the report renders, but the print layout displays all pages.

For instance, the Web Layout displays only 6 pages whereas the report contains 42 pages which the print layout displays correctly. The PDF download of the report also displays all the pages correctly.

I did try to "Disable the Preview Feature" under the file menu but this hasn't fixed the issue.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance

Hi @Anonymous , figured out the why there was discrepancies in the number of pages in different layouts. It was rather a simple logic 😁 which I didn't think about when I initailly started looking into it.

The font size and the size of the content/data each page hold in web-layout was different from that of the print layout. The web layout holds more data in one page which was equivalent to 4-5 pages of data in print layout. Since the differnce in the total number of pages was pretty high I assumed something was wrong(my bad and sorry about consuming your time as well)

So, basically 42 pages of data in print layout was equal to 16 pages of data in web layout.

Thank you for reaching out to help me on this topic.

Hi @Anonymous , thanks for your response. I did try to export the report to other formats like Word and Excel. The output of the export has all 16 pages. Its just the web-layout that shows a preview version of the output. And this happens both in report server and report builder. The Print-layout gives the expected result.

The browser I use is Edge. Due to restrictions, I am unable to test in other browsers. I tried clearing cache and private mode it's the same result.

Hi,@Anonymous .Thank you for your reply.

It looks like the data loss you mention occurs when viewing reports, and
I think there should be a problem with the renderer in Power BI when dealing with paginated reports in the web layout.
Please try the following actions:
1. Try to preview other reports with different number of pages to check if the same problem occurs.
2. If you can, please ask your colleagues to open the preview of the paginated reports you are having problems with and test if the same problem occurs.
3. Have you tried to modify the page layout of the report, please try to modify the page layout of the report (the width and height of the page, as well as the related parameters of the right sidebar are involved, try to keep them at the default values)
4. Try to create another paginated reports with the same dataset and test the final result of the preview reports.
If the above tests do not solve your problem. You need to contact Microsoft Power BI Support for more help.
I think this may be an issue that Power BI needs to fix (power BI paginated reports don't have a limit on the number of pages in the preview).

Hi,@Anonymous .Thank you for your reply.
As it turns out, the difference in web layout causes more content to be displayed on each page, thus making the entire report display fewer pages.
You can mark the final recommendation you provide as a solution.
Thank you very much for your understanding and support of Power BI.😁

Hi,@Anonymous .I am glad to help you.
This does seem to be a strange phenomenon. Do you only get this problem when you click on View Report in Power BI Service to see a preview of the paginated reports?
Do you also have this problem in Power BI Report Builder and Power BI Report Server? (When previewing paginated reports the report only shows 6 pages instead of all 42 pages)
You mentioned that when you export paginated reports to PDF, it ends up printing all the pages, please try exporting to other formats (e.g. Excel,Word) to see if the same problem occurs. (Check the impact of different renderers)

Is this situation only for one of your paginated reports or is it for most of the reports with more data volume (paginated reports with more pages have problems)

I found out by checking the information that some users “Disable the Preview Feature” when they encounter such a situation.
The problem was then solved, but you mentioned that this advice does not solve your problem.

Please try to clear your browser cache and try to log in to Power BI Service using a different browser to preview the report/export the report.

At this time it is not possible to determine if there is some error in your paginated reports setup or if Power BI Service is causing the issue (browser cache).
If you can provide more details (including Power BI Service/Report Builder version number, etc.), this will help to find the cause of the error faster.
