I need help with this error.
I contacted Microsoft Support, and they advised me to update my on-premise gateway (personal mode) that is on the virtual machine(VM). After updating it, all my reports started failing to refresh, showing a timeout error.
Following their instructions, I logged into the gateway (personal mode) on my local PC. However, now the error has changed to:
"Failed to update data source credentials: Unable to find the requested .NET Framework Data Provider. It may not be installed."
I have already installed the .NET Framework at my local pc and added <DbProviderFactories> in machine.config within the Framework folder, but the issue still persists.
Now, I want to switch the gateway (personal mode) back to the VM as the primary, but I can’t see the VM’s server name or device name. Instead, my local PC is listed as the primary, even though the VM server is already logged into the gateway.
Thank you.

Personal Gateways have no concept of a cluster. They are always only running as an application (not a service) on a single machine.
Hi Ibendlin,
Thank you for your reply.
After logging into the on-premise gateway (Personal mode) on my PC, I was prompted with an option to take over the gateway, and I was advised to proceed by the support. After that, we attempted to log in to the data source, but it kept showing the following error:
"Failed to update data source credentials: Unable to find the requested .NET Framework Data Provider."
Thank you.
