Error in scheduled refresh

Hello!

I have a Power BI report connected to a SharePoint Online list. This SharePoint list receives data from a Power App, and that part works fine. However, when new data is added to the SharePoint list, the Power BI report does not update automatically.

I created a Power Automate flow to refresh the dataset whenever a new item is created, and the flow shows as successful, but the data in Power BI does not refresh.

Additionally, in the semantic model, the Refresh button is disabled, and I see this message:
"Due to consecutive errors, scheduled refresh has been disabled. Please resolve the error on the dataset and then re-enable. Data source for Query1."

I’m not sure what the error could be. Could you please help me identify and resolve this issue? Thank you!

Hi @Isajp2002,

Before continuing to invest time in Power Automate, it is worth assessing whether this solution is truly necessary. For data stored in the cloud, such as SharePoint Online, Power BI already supports scheduled refreshes directly in the service without requiring an additional flow.

Why Consider Scheduled Refresh?

  • Power BI Service can synchronise datasets with online sources without a gateway.
  • You can set a reasonable frequency, for example every hour, which is sufficient for most scenarios.
  • This approach is simpler, more stable, and does not depend on additional integrations.

Only if you require immediate refresh after each item is added via Power Apps.

If this response was helpful in any way, I’d gladly accept a 👍much like the joy of seeing a DAX measure work first time without needing another FILTER.

Please mark it as the correct solution. It helps other community members find their way faster (and saves them from another endless loop 🌀.
