Trying a direct query mode report from a browser render using a sql server data source gets the error "We couldn't connect to the Analysis Services server. Make sure you've entered the connection string correctly.".

If you create a new report then publish to Power BI report server October version, please follow the suggestion in this thread: http://community.powerbi.com/t5/Report-Server/PowerBI-Server-October-DirectQuery-to-SQL-Server-table...
If the report exists before upgrade to Power BI report server October version, please see this thread: http://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/Existing-Power-BI-reports-will-not-load-after-upgrading-to/id...

I am facing the same while using Excel as a Datasource with Import on Power BI Report Server. Again it is not everytime but its intermittent
Any pointers will be helpfull.
