Hi,
I upgraded Power BI report server to the latest version (January 2023), after that I launched the report server configuration manager, I have the server name which is the name of the server where PBIRS is installed but the instance field is grayed out when I click on find I get the error message "Provider load failure".
I’ve tried to uninstall PBIRS and install it again but i get the same error, I even installed the older version may 2022 and I got the same error.
NB: my sqlserver database is on another server but it was working fine, I checked if I can still connect from sqlserver management Studio from the server where PBIRS is installed to the one where the database resides and it works just fine.
please if anybody can help out.
Actually this could be an issue with the WMI registration. You could try the following fix (it should not cause any harm) Fix Report Server Configuration Manager Not Listing Instance - Business wIntelligence
I also tried it and NO sucess (screenshot 1)
My setup is the following:
- Windows 11 ARM64 (running emulated on a Macbook Air M3)
- SQL Server 2022 DEVELOPER installed via the following script (https://github.com/jimm98y/MSSQLEXPRESS-M1-Install)
- SSIS + SSAS installed and running after the previous install, via the configuration/installer tool for SQL Server (all 3 running perfectly)
- SSMS installed via the configuration/installer tool for SQL Server
- PBI Report Server installed via it's own installer (May 2024).
- PBI RS service is running (screenshot 2)
- When i execute the "Report Server Configuration Manager" i'm unable to connect to the PBI RS instance. I always get the "Provider load failure" error (screenshot 3)
Quick update. The only PBIRS logs i see updating are the following:
- RSManagement_xxx.log
- RSHostingService_xxx.log
I tried that and it didn't work. I have SQL Server 2017. I uninstalled report server and reinstalled RS 2017 and it worked fine. When I upgrade SSRS to 2019, I get that error. I have another server with the same SQL Server version and build and SSRS 2019 works on it with no issue. Been working on it for a few days and it's driving me crazy. Any help is appreciated.
Did you ever figure out how to resolve this issue?
I have the exact same issue on the May 2024 version. Installed it on a Windows 11 ARM, the PBIRS service appears to be running (i see it as "running" on the services list) but when trying to initiate the configuration process via the "report server configuration manager" i have the exact same error. I also have a SQL Server developer version installed with SSIS and SSAS, all running and appearing working perfectly. Any suggestion from anyone?
You might need to raise a support ticket with Microsoft, I have not seen anyone else with this issue before.
