I am wanting to add two columns to create a new column.

I have used formula:

Totals= SUM('Report'[number locations] + 'Report'[Number staff])
I am getting error:
The SUM function only accepts a column reference as an argument.
Can anyone assist please?

SUM in Excel and SUM in DAX are very different. If you are adding a calculated column, just use = [column1] + [column2].

If you are doing a custom column in Power Query, it is the same syntax - = [column1] + [column2], there is no SUM() in Power Query.

If you are doing a measure, we'll need to see more of what it is you are trying to accomplish.
