power bi javascript personal gateway

Currently I have a power bi desktop report where I use R script to do data transformation. I know I need to configure a gateway (personal mode) to use it in a published report.

I can get the same functionality I get from R in javascript (a simple regex and replacing values in a column).

My question is, do I need to configure a gateway if I use javascript?

If you are using R to import into Power BI Desktop, you need a personal gateway.
