Hello,
I have a data table that I normally access via Analysis Services.
Recently, new data I need to access has been added to a different server that I can only access via Datasets in Power BI.
I was told I could combine or append them together using Power Query.
However, when I connect to either, my data options gray out due them both being live connections. I tried opening a blank query and going from there but I'm unable to load the data from Analysis Services this way and I can't find a way to add a PBI dataset to the blank query.
any advice or recommended videos would be greatly appreciated, as none of the instructions or videos I'm coming across tackle these questions.
@JKFX001 Switch to DirectQuery for Power BI Datasets instead of Live and then you can create a composite model that allows you to do what you want.
@Greg_Deckler thank you! I was able to switch the live connection on the dataset to Directquery by going to File > Options & Setting > Options > Preview features and selecting 'DirectQuery for PBI datasets and AS".
However, when I try to add the data from Analysis Services it tells me;
"Either the version of Analysis Services is too old, or the admin disabled DirectQuery connections to this data source".
Is this something I should address with my data team or am I trying to add this additional data incorrectly?
I ask because as I have the dataset open via DirectQuery, I see that there is still no option for the Data view where I would append the data together once added.
Any advice is welcome.
Thank you
@JKFX001 Not sure if that error is related to your source system or Power BI Desktop. But, you should be able to go into Power Query and, for example, create an import mode query. That then makes the dataset a composite model.
