I recently ran into an issue connecting to Snowflake server in the "Get Data" menu of PowerBI Desktop. I've connected to Snowflake many times previously without issue. But now I get the following error:
"Unable to connect. We encountered an error while trying to connect. Details: "We cannot convert the value null to type Logical.""
I'm not even using a SQL statement. I'm only inputting the Snowflake Server name and Warehouse name. On the next screen I use my Snowflake Username and Password. After those two steps I get the above error. I double checked and I can access Snowflake with the same Username and Password on Snowflake UI. What's strange is I have been connecting to Snowflake from PBI desktop for the past year and just suddenly faced this issue. Tried on 2 different PCs and got the same error.

Hello @grnelson39,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community.
I tested this scenario on my side using Power BI Desktop (June 2025 version): Version: 2.144.1155.0 (64-bit) – June 2025 With this version, I was able to connect to Snowflake successfully without encountering the "We cannot convert the value null to type Logical." error you described.
For your reference, I’ve attached a screenshot showing a successful connection:
Download the same Power BI Desktop version: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494
Please try installing this version and see if the issue persists. It’s possible that a newer or older build may be causing a compatibility problem with the Snowflake connector.
If you continue to experience the error after installing the June 2025 version, let me know and we can explore further troubleshooting steps together.
If this information is helpful, please “Accept as solution” and give a "kudos" to assist other community members in resolving similar issues more efficiently.
Thank you.
Updating to the latest version of PBI Desktop resolved it. Thank you!

Hello @grnelson39
Update Power BI Desktop and Snowflake ODBC driver to the latest version. Clear credentials in Power BI (File > Options > Data source settings). In Advanced Options, enter a dummy SQL like SELECT 1 to bypass metadata error. Try connecting via ODBC instead of the native Snowflake connector. Clear Power BI cache and restart: Options > Data Load > Clear Cache Delete temp files: C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\AnalysisServicesWorkspaces
