Synching Different Data Sources within the Same Dataset from Desktop

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the following sceanrio.

I have set of reports and and dashboard which I built using the Power BI desktop designer and published to my PowerBI which is accessed via a work office 365 account.

The report and dashboard uses one dataset that contains three datasources which are:

1. Data from an Azure database table from where I get the majority of the data.

2. A reference table which provides a simple two column lookup I use for changing the name of some of the categories. This is sourced from an Excel file.

3. A Date Table I created for doing DAX time series calculations

The report and dashboards work fine but now I want to setup the Azure table to AutoRefresh which I have done before. However the only option I am given when I go to 'Schedule the Referesh' on the data set is to setup a gateway.

Is it not possible to synch on the Azure data source? If not how would I be able to set this up so only the Azure Data is refereshed.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks,

Brendan

@Brendan Couple things here. Auto Refresh implies a Direct Query (to me) - which can't be mixed with either entered data in the Desktop file or on premises sources like Excel in the file. The only scenerio that would allow that is to seperate your Azure data into a seperate report and combine everything via the dashboard (but it sounds like this all gets mashed up, so this probably won't work).

The option you do have, is if you can manually enter the data into the Desktop itself via "Enter Data" (copy/paste) from your Excel file, then as long as your Data table also exists solely within the Desktop, you should not need a gateway to set up Scheduled refresh because the only source would be Azure.

Thanks Eno1978m this worked a treat removing the Excel file!

I'm in London so the user group may be a bit too much of a journey!
