Split Column

I have 1 column containing Joe Bloggs Accountant

I wish to split this into 3 columns - 

1st - Joe

2nd - Bloggs

3rd - Accountant

Excel, in its Text to Columns functioanlity, allows me to skip the import of the 3rd column.

Can I do this in Power Query Editor or do I need to simply delete it once the split has been done.

You can use the Split columns by Delimiter in Power Query - see the steps below:

You can do this by specifying the number of columns to split into under advanced options.

if i specify 2 here, would that take the full conents of the original column, i.e., Joe Bloggs Accountant, and split it over 2 columns?  What i want is to discard the word Accountant altogether.

Claire,

If I understand your question, if you choose "at Right most delimiter" instead of "at Each occurence" then you will get the name in one column and Accountant in the other.

That is two steps. 

Split into 3 first, then delete the column with "Accountant" in it. 

There are more streamlined ways, but through the ribbon will be the easiest and fastest for you to implement.
