Slicer select column related to column attached to a parameter

Hello,

I am working with a fairly complex set of data and have two columns one is a Name and another is a custom Number ID specific to that Name. They have a 1-to-1 relation and I have a parameter set on the Number ID since that is what most of my tables use to store data under that Name. I was trying to get a slicer working where I can select the Name and have that selection influence the ID Number parameter that I have created. So say if I select John whose Id is 1 I want the parameter to be set to 1 if that makes sense. I use this parameter in my queries to get specific data since the tables are fairly large with everyones data in them.

Is this possible? I have tried multiple methods and have given up looking through Google for a solution.

Hi @tshendr

Do you create an M query parameter for the Number ID? If I understand it correctly, the Dynamic M query parameters in Power BI Desktop feature should be helpful. With dynamic M query parameters, model authors can configure the filter or slicer values that report viewers can use for an M query parameter. Dynamic M query parameters give model authors more control over the filter selections to incorporate into DirectQuery source queries.

This feature is not supported if you get data from data sources with Import mode.

In addition, your other tables should have relationships to the first table based on the Number ID column, so that they can be filtered by the first table.
