Sharepoint source credentials problem as external

Hi,

there are a lot of threads about this problem, but I cant find a solution.

I am a self employed PBI consultant, working for many customers. I always struggle when working with SharePoint as a data source.
The customers give me access with my external email adress and this works fine via web browser. I just have to authenticate with a code each time, I log in.

In Power BI, I cant login to the data source with my Organization Account.
I always get the error: We couldnt authenticate with the credentials provided. Please try again.

Note: I also noticed when using the web browser, SharePoint wont show me the URL off the Excel files.

Current workaround is, that I download all files and save them on my own SharePoint. But this is not an efficient way.

Can someone help me to solve this problem?

Thanks for any help or information

Kind regards

I was just testing this out today for a question in another thread - I can confirm that you can access SharePoint Online sources as an external user. What worked for me was adding the external user to the tenant as a B2B guest user in Azure, like Ibendlin mentioned, accepting the invite, and then putting that external user into the member (or visitor) group for the SharePoint site and connecting via the normal way (auth type organizational).

Thank you both very much for your help!
I will ask the IT department of the clients company to do this and test the access.

Make the clients invite you as a guest user to their AAD /Entra ID.
