Remotely create reports for a client connected to their data sources?

Hello,

for one of our clients I would like to develop Power BI reports connected to their local data sources (SSAS, SAP BW, Excel). The main issue comes from me not having access to their servers on my laptop.

As I have thought about it there are three options:

  1. Create reports on my own laptop based on data samples in Xls. Before the reports would go live, I would get the PBIX file to their computer and rebind all data sources to the original ones.
  2. Borrow a laptop from the client with access to their systems and develop it there.
  3. Get distant access to their systems on my laptop. (might not be possible)

Before publishing to the Power BI web services we would install data gateway on the client's servers the facilitate the connection.

Are the three options above the only ones or is there a better way? I feel like I am missing something. I would definitely prefer using my own laptop.

Thank you for any advice.

Jan

@JanBuzek,

It is better to use the first method. After sending the PBIX file to your client, just replace the source code in Advanced editor of your queries in Power BI Desktop query editor,

And to make everything smooth, ensure the table structures in your excel file are same as that in your client's data sources.

Lydia
