PowerBI - Connecting to a Web source with Authentication

Hi, 

I wondered if someone can help please? 

I'm trying to connect PowerBI to a web based API source. This requires a bearer token that refreshes frequently. 

However, in the first instance, I just want to access the data using a token I enter manually. It's not working, I keep getting to the Access Web Content window for various types of Authroisation. I've tried all of them and it's still not connecting. 

It says use anonymous access for this Web content. I click connect and it says We couldn't authenticate the credentials. I tried basic with the logins required to generate the token, same response. I tried adding the name of the Key from the API site into the WebAPI and it says a web API key can only be specified when a web API key name is provided. 

I've tested it in Postman and been able to pull the correct reponse, so I'm lost as to why this won't allow me to connect. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi 

No, unfortunately this is not the solution. 

I need to connect to a secure API and I've tried all the connection types and it's not allowing me to connect. 

Some of the info I've seen suggests PowerBI is not capable of connecting to a secure Web API which is disappointing. It says it can only connect anonymously which is not appropriate for this situation. 

If you're able to advise how I can connect to a secure Web API - that would be great. 

Further info the verb being used is a POST action.

Hi, @gibbs-powerBI ;

a) According to offical document, Different connectors show different authentication methods.
b) In some cases, you might need to change the authentication method you use in a connector to access a specific data source.
c)You can also delete the credentials for a particular website in step 3 by selecting Clear Permissions for a selected website, or by selecting Clear All Permissions for all of the listed websites.
