1) Published desktop PBIX to online PBI
2) No gateway, so installed personal gateway
3) Gateway installed, green and all looks ok
4) Back to online to add, no gateways available
5) Install/resintall etc, restart etc, same sceanario everytime
6) Reinstall on top of install and it says "installed" so it knows its there.
Any pointers?

Normally, for personal gateway, we cannot see it under manage gateway.
You could see it under Settings >> Datasets>>Gateway connection>>you could find the personal gateway if you installed it successfully.
Please check if you could see it under Datasets in Power BI Service.

Hi - no.....I have seen that screen before, but cannot see it at all from Datasets....I have a Gateway installed BUT its litereally not appearing anywhere?

Firstly, we could check if we have installed the personal gateway in the device under Control Pannel>> Programs and Features.
And then we could see it under Setting >> Dataset in Power BI Service.
If I understand your scenario correctly that you cannot see the personal gateway option under Gateway connection in Power BI Service?
If it is, could you share the screenshot of the Gateway connection in Power BI Service here?

In a round about way, this is resolved. Where the items are on SP lists with NO excel on O365 etc, no gateway is needed. However, the gatetway is visible and accessible once a source is added to a none SP list.
